Rail engineers have given the all-clear to a Medway rail bridge after it was hit by a lorry.

A passer-by reported the London Road, Strood, bridge had been hit by a lorry soon after 3pm today. It is understood to have not stopped.

Network Rail immediately sent for the bridge to be examined by engineering staff.

They found no damage from the collision and gave the all-clear at 3.30pm.

Passengers at Rochester station had been delayed for about 20 minutes before the line was restored to normal speeds.

A Network Rail spokesman said: "Our bridges are pretty resilient, really."
