Rochester and Strood MP Mark Reckless is to marry next month after a whirlwind romance.

Mr Reckless met lawyer Catriona Brown in February this year and they got engaged two months ago.

Ms Brown, who is Scottish but lives in London, said the moment Mr Reckless proposed to her was a "fairy tale".

He popped the question on the rooftop of her apartment building next to St Pancras International station in London.

Mr Reckless, who was elected as MP in May last year, had originally planned to propose elsewhere, but couldn’t persuade his future wife to go for a walk.

He said: "I did try to get her to go to Regent’s Park and propose there, but she didn’t want to go for a walk, so I had to propose on the rooftop next to all the scaffolding at the station."

He added: "I was feeling nervous before but I thought she would say ‘yes’."

Ms Brown said: "When Mark got down on bended knee and proposed, it was a fairy tale moment. I love him very much, and we are incredibly excited about starting our new married lives together."

The couple are getting married at Westminster Cathedral on Saturday, October 1.
