Chatham biker will no longer face trial for death of Walderslade grandfather Richard Kane

A motorcyclist accused of causing the death of a grandfather by careless driving in Walderslade will no longer face a trial after the Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence.

Joseph Fisher, 24, was alleged to have struck 89-year-old Richard Kane with his Yamaha motorbike in Dargets Road just after 5pm on November 9 last year.

Mr Kane, of Cooper Road, Lordswood, was leaving Walderslade village with shopping and winnings from a football bet when the collision occurred.

He was taken to King's College Hospital in London but died the next day from head injuries.

Fisher, of Kellaway Road, Chatham, was treated at the same hospital for a minor leg injury.

He was due to stand trial at Maidstone Crown Court in December this year but on Monday (Sept 8) the prosecution offered no evidence.
