Missing man charged with escaping custody

A man who went missing from police custody at Medway Maritime Hospital has been charged.

Michael Buss, 41, is accused of escaping lawful custody and was due to appear before Medway magistrates this morning.

He was taken to the Gillingham hospital for treatment when he fell ill while being held on suspicion of fraud.

But it was discovered last Friday he had disappeared from a ward. A major operation to find Buss, from Tonbridge, was launched.

Police said he was found in Chatham on Wednesday night. He has not been charged with the alleged fraud.

A second man, aged 52, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released on police bail.

A woman aged 42 who was also harrested was released with a caution.
