Medway RFC's Ryan Dixon remains in hospital in Surrey after surgery on what the club's director of rugby Mark Marriott called an ‘incredibly savage injury'.

The openside flanker, who recently joined Medway from Greenwich, was hurt in Saturday’s 50-15 win at Bromley in London 3 South East.

The 24-year-old was taken to hospital with a dislocated hip and fractured pelvis after an awkward fall and underwent an operation on Saturday night.

Marriott said: "Ryan is still in hospital and will be for some time.

"The latest is that he has a break on the bone that is not a break on the ball joint, which is good news. The doctors say it is more positive than negative news. It is an incredibly savage injury and an unusual one for someone of his age."

He added: "He’s had plenty of visitors but he remains poorly and under close observation. It is one day at a time at the moment."
