Record numbers of fans turned out for Medway’s third Love Music Hate Racism weekend.
The three day bank holiday event featured 30 of Medway’s local groups. And for the first time there was a chance to Love DJs.
The event was staged at Command House in Chatham where Naeem Lone, one of the event organisers, said: “It has been a truly amazing weekend.
“Every year it gets better and better. The talent that we have here in Medway is plain for all to see. It really is about putting unity into the community.”
The Love DJ’s Hate Racism section was run by Mikey Ragga of Intentions Studios.
Politicians from across the political spectrum also spoke, including MPs Paul Clark (Lab) and Jonathan Shaw (Lab), Cllrs Teresa Murray (Lab), Cllr Maureen Ruparel (Lib) and European election candidates.
All urged people to vote on June 4 to ensure no racist political parties get elected.
Cllr Vince Maple (Lab), part of the organising committee, said: “The mix of pop and politics was really helpful to get this important message across, particularly to some people who may be turned off by normal political activities. Even in these difficult economic times, parties like the racist BNP are not an alternative.”
