A medical centre is due to be scrutinised further after being branded "inadequate" by inspectors.

Bryant Street Medical Centre, Chatham, was inspected by the Care Quality Commission health watchdog in November.

In a report published yesterday, the centre – which has around 7,600 registered patients – was given an "inadequate" rating in two of the five categories health providers are judged on.

Inspectors warned if the surgery does not improve, those who operate it could be banned from running the service and it could close.

Concerns included a lack of risk assessment for emergency medicines; how staff were unable to show inspectors they had recruitment and DBS checks in place; and how staff vaccinations were not monitored in line with Public Health England guidance.

It was also rated "inadequate" for its ability to provide well-led services due to "ineffective" overall governance, unclear processes for managing risks and issues, as well as limited evidence of systems for learning and improvement.

The centre is due to be inspected again within six months.

St Werburgh Medical Practice in Hoo is also threatened with closure after a similar CQC rating.
