Man charged after serious assault in High Street, Chatham

A man has been charged after a 40-year-old suffered “serious head injuries” in an assault.

The incident happened in High Street, Chatham, on Thursday (June 22) at around 6pm.

The victim was reported to have been punched during an altercation with another man near Church Street.

He sustained head injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains.

Johnathan Russell, 35, of Meadow Bank Road, Chatham, has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.

Following inquiries by officers from the Medway Community Safety Unit and officers from Medway CID department, Russell was arrested and later charged.

He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court yesterday (June 26) where he was remanded on conditional bail.

He is due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, July 24.
