Man in court after knifepoint robbery in Chatham

A man has appeared in court after a knifepoint robbery in which cash was stolen from a Chatham newsagent.

Police say the Londis shop in Magpie Hall Road was targeted at around 3.15pm on Tuesday when an employee is said to have been threatened with a knife before cash was taken.

Jason Malloy, of Ansell Avenue, Chatham, was arrested on suspicion of the offence the next morning, following enquiries carried out by the Chief Constable’s Crime Squad.

The 28-year-old was subsequently charged with robbery and threatening a person with a bladed article, and was remanded in custody to attend Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday).

Malloy has now been remanded in custody to next attend Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday, May 13.
