His attacker then ran from the scene of the altercation in the High Street, which happened at around 11.30am on March 3.

The assault happened just days before a teenager was left a "serious but stable condition" in hospital after being stabbed in the same road.

Police and forensic officers were called to the town centre on Thursday afternoon after a 17-year-old was knifed in the street outside Wilko and Sports Direct.

Police officers investigating the incident outside the betting shop have today released a CCTV image of a man who they would like to speak to over the attack.

A force spokesman said: "Kent Police was called to the report of an unprovoked assault in the High Street.

'It is alleged he then struck the victim on the back of the head with a brick and fled the scene...'

"A man seen standing in Canterbury Street walked to its junction with the High Street and approached another man.
