Deptford man Darren Katumba charged after robbery in Dartford and attempted robbery in Gillingham

A man has been charged in connection with an attempted robbery at a bank in Gillingham.

Kent Police was called at just before 9.45am on Friday, to reports a man had entered the Santander bank in the High Street and demanded cash.

The bank’s shutters came down and the man left empty-handed.

Darren Katumba, 21, of Millard Road, Deptford, has been charged with one count of robbery relating to an incident at the Co-Operative Bank in Hythe Street, Dartford on 27 June, and also charged with one count of attempted robbery relating to the incident in Gillingham.

He appeared at North Kent Magistrates’ Court on Saturday where he was remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on September 6.
