Speaking at the opening at County Hall, Maidstone, today, coroner Katrina Hepburn said: "Mr Howes was making his way home from work on Brompton Hill and was seen to wobble and fall."

He had suffered severe traumatic injuries and an air ambulance was called.

Mr Howes, who lived in Forge Lane in Rochester, was admitted to the critical care unit at King's College Hospital in London.

But tragically, his condition deteriorated and he died on July 3.

Ms Hepburn said a post-mortem revealed the cause of death to be severe traumatic brain injury.

A provisional date for the inquest has been set for September 24 at County Hall in Maidstone at 3.30pm.
