Gillingham man charged with five counts of burglary after homes broken into in Gillingham, Strood and Newington

A man has been charged with burglary after reports of several breaks-ins.

Police were called to five properties across Swale and Medway between October 4 and October 17.

Items were reported stolen from homes in London Road in Newington, Lower Rainham Road in Gillingham, Vicarage Road in Strood and Beechings Way, Gillingham.

These included cash, bank cards, jewellery, laptop computers and bottles of spirits.

A vehicle was also taken from one of the addresses and later recovered by officers parked in Crossley Road, Gillingham.

Officers arrested a man on Wednesday, October 18 and uncovered suspected stolen items after searching a property.

Anthony Walker, of Canterbury Street, Gillingham has been charged with five burglaries and taking a vehicle without consent.

Walker, aged 38, appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court, where he was remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on November 17.
