Man charged following an assault in Rochester High Street

A man has been charged with assault and robbery following an incident in Rochester High Street on Friday.

Edward Phillips, 34, of Meadow Bank Road, Chatham, was arrested shortly after 11.40pm on suspicion of attacking a man so he could steal his wallet and smartphone.

The victim suffered injuries to his head and face and received hospital treatment.

Phillips is due to appear in court today.
