Medway Highways tweeted about the closure, understood to be at the High Street end, at 11.06am on Wednesday, September 13.

It is now understood that Station Road is only open for emergency service vehicles.

SGN has permission to work on the road until 11.59pm on Wednesday, September 20.

A SGN spokesperson said: “We’re carrying out urgent repairs to our gas network in Station Road, Strood.

“For everyone’s safety, we’ve temporarily closed Station Road during our work. A signed diversion is in place for road users.

“It’s too soon to say how long our work will take but we’re working to reopen the road as quickly as possible.”
