A white lorry was badly damaged as the driver took it under the bridge near the junction with Gun Lane.

The vehicle has since been removed and taken to the side of the road opposite the nearby Kwik Fit.

A worker there said they'd heard a bang but had not witnessed the crash.

He didn't believe there had been any injuries and didn't know which company the lorry belonged to.

A photo of the incident was posted on Facebook by Dave Roots and appears to show the lorry's roof ripped back.

Firefighters were not called to the scene but the police were present.

A spokesman said: "Officers attended and completed traffic control until 11am when the vehicle was moved."

Trains were temporally suspended while the bridge was inspected but no issues were found.

A Network Rail spokesman said services resumed at 11.40am.
