Those living near the area have been advised to close their windows while emergency services are at work on the scene.

One resident said: “There is a vehicle on fire between Borstal and Burham, by the lower road.

“It’s a white van and it was already three-quarters of the way burned through when the fire brigade arrived.

“Police have closed the road in both directions. The lorry went up so quick.”

Kent Fire and Rescue Service confirmed crews left the scene at 6.12pm.

A spokesman said: “We were called to a van alight on Burham Road, Rochester.

“Two fire engines attended, and crews wearing breathing apparatus put the fire out.

“There were no reported injuries. Kent Police also attended.”
