Gillingham midfielder Danny Jackman is one player maintaining form during a rough spell for the club and hopes that will rub off on others.

He converted a stunning free-kick at Accrington but it was a moment quickly forgotten as the side lost 4-3 for the second match running.

Jackman knows that he alone can’t help turn Gillingham’s fortunes around but will be doing all he can to help.

He said: "It doesn’t matter how one certain individual player is doing. You are judged as a collective and collectively at the moment we are not good enough.

"We need to take a look at ourselves and our individual performances and see what we can improve on.

"It’s about getting back to basics and remembering what we were doing well when we were on that nine-game unbeaten run before the Stoke game.

Jackman (pictured) netted with a free-kick in the first half, his fifth goal of the season, and the left-footer is hoping to make scoring free-kicks a habit.

"It was my first real free-kick I have had since I have been back at the club that flew straight in," he said.

"When I was at Northampton I was the regular taker and they always seemed to go in. In one season, I scored seven. I got involved on Saturday and that has given me a bit of confidence to step up a bit more now."

The Gills head into the Hereford game tomorrow off the back of three straight defeats.

Jackman knows they need to get back on form quick and admits the players may have been distracted a little with cup fever.

He said: "The Stoke FA Cup game was a great game to play in but perhaps we took our eye off the league and what we were doing.

"Since then, we have not been at the standards we have done previously. Confidence has taken a battering."
