Hunt after guman robs post office

AN ARMED robber has escaped made off with about £3,000 after holding up a post office in Chatham.

The raider held up a small sub-post office in Shirley Avenue on the town's Davis Estate.

A police spokesman said: “We are keen to trace a blue Ford Fiesta, with yellow wavy lines along the side, that was seen in the area of Shirley Avenue just before the robbery happened.

“The offender is described as white, 6ft, 2in with dark curly hair. He was wearing a big black coat, jeans and black shoes and was carrying a small black hand gun.”

A pensioner, who did not want to be named, said: "There was a police car outside the post office and officers inside. I think they had taped off part of the shop and were stopping members of the public from entering.”

The incident happened at about 9.45am on Wednesday. Anyone who may have seen something or who may have information in connection with this incident is asked to contact Medway Police on 01634 884252 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
