Coronavirus Kent: How to make your own message net for the NHS

People across the county have been showing their gratitude for the NHS in a variety of crafty and innovative ways.

Megan Stratford, a product design student from Chatham, devised a way of getting the community involved with her project to share messages of thanks to healthcare workers.

She created a message net, called Communicare, which she hung outside her home in the Darland Banks area of Chatham.

People were invited to attach their messages to the net, which she will share with Medway Maritime Hospital.

The 20-year-old University of Brighton student said: "I thought it would be quite nice to include all the notes and the local hospital and keep it in a frame as a reminder of how grateful people were at this time."

Megan said she got a great reception from people walking past and pinning their notes to the net, and she wants others to try their hand at making their own.

She said: "We had a uni project to make a product that anyone could make from home and I thought it would be nice to make something related to the current issue of coronavirus.

"It has turned into something for the whole community to get involved in. I have had NHS nurses outside my house saying, 'Thank you, that's so nice'"

If you make your own net, Megan has asked people to send photos of their creations to meganjay@hotmail.co.uk or tag @meganjaystratford on Instagram.
