The Three Gardeners, North Street, Strood, could be turned into flats and a restaurant

A derelict pub could be turned into flats and a restaurant.

The Three Gardeners in North Street, Strood, which dates from the early 18th century was destroyed in an arson attack in 2009, after it closed down.

A planning application to turn the grade II listed building into four flats, a restaurant and takeaway has been submitted to Medway Council.

Planning agent Darren Stoneman, of Architecture One, wants to restore the facade of the pub and its grand staircase. Workman have already been on site to repair some of the damage caused by the fire.

The plans would also see an extension pulled down and a single storey roof extension built to increase floor space.

The building was listed in 1974 for its architectural interest as an early 18th century town house with many remaining 18th century features.

The fire in 2009 caused considerable internal damage, particularly to the ground floor but following an assessment the following year by Historic England, it remained listed.
