Heavy tailbacks after Blue Bell Hill crash

A crash on Blue Bell Hill on Thursday night caused heavy tailbacks for motorists coming to Medway from Maidstone.

It happened at the top of the hill just before the Lord Lees roundabout.

Two vehicles collided at about 5.40pm and a woman in her 20s was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital with minor injuries.

One motorist caught up in the traffic queues said: "Blue Bell Hill just came to a standstill about half way up.

"All three lanes were queuing traffic. Then eventually when I got past the crash site, Chatham Maidstone Road near the airport was just one lane as it had been coned off.

"So I spent another 10 minutes or so queuing there too. All in all a half-hour journey took me almost an hour-and-a-half."

A Kent Police spokesman added: "Recovery vehicles attended to remove the two vehicles and all debris was removed and carriageway clear by 7.35pm.

"There was damage reported to the central reservation."
