Star players Andrew Crofts and Simon King could still be sold this summer despite the pair committing themselves to Gillingham’s cause.

Captain Crofts and defender King will be key to Gillingham’s claims for an immediate return to League 1 next season but manager Mark Stimson admitted that money talks.

Stimson was delighted to hear the pair express their desire to help the club in their quest for promotion next season after the manager met with his squad on Tuesday.

The Gills boss said: "Andrew Crofts is willing to take up the challenge next year and that’s the same for Simon King.

"I know there were a few rumours about other teams showing interest in them but they’ve shown me positive intentions and that’s been very encouraging."

Crofts had been reportedly attracting interest from QPR, Peterborough and Swansea, while King has won many admirers after a solid first season at Priestfield.

"When players play consistently well then others might try and step in," added Stimson.

"Every player in the world has his price and it would be stupid to think otherwise. If the offer was too good to refuse then we might have to look at it but I’ve had no phone calls."
