Chatham stabbing suspects questioned by police after incident in High Street and Hartington Street

Four men are being quizzed by police after a teenager was stabbed in a town centre.

Police were called to a shop in Chatham High Street yesterday afternoon and then to a residential street across town.

Officers cordoned off Hartington Street, where a knife was recovered, and the Chatham Express store in the high street after being called at 2.21pm.

A 19-year-old man from London was found with stab wounds and was airlifted to hospital in the capital.

He has been discharged and arrested on suspicion of affray.

Three men from Chatham have also been arrested in connection with the incident which sparked a huge emergency response.

A man in his 50s was taken to hospital as a precaution and has also been discharged before being arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and attempted robbery.

Another two men, aged 26 and 37, both from Chatham, were arrested on suspicion of affray.

All the suspects are being held in custody while officers continue their investigations.

After the initial incident in the high street police descended on the residential street where witnesses said a knife had been thrown into a garden.

Paramedic crews were joined by the air ambulance after receiving the call at 2.40pm to attend Hartington Street - about half a mile from the shop in the town centre.
