Strood men charged with burglaries in Twydall and Rainham areas of Gillingham

Detectives have charged four people in connection with 11 burglaries in Gillingham.

Officers arrested four men in Strood on Tuesday as part of an ongoing investigation into burglaries in the Twydall and Rainham areas.

Between Thursday, January 12, and Saturday, January 28, this year, police received reports of 11 burglaries where homes were targeted.

The four men were charged yesterday and are due to appear in court today.

Marius Eheorghe and Vasile Nicusor, both 27 and each of no fixed address were both charged with conspiracy to burgle. They were both also charged with driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

Vasilica Radu, 43 and Marius Ion, 28 and both of no fixed address were each charged with conspiracy to burgle.

Items stolen from the burglaries are reported to have included jewellery and musical and electrical items.

Officers believe access has been gained to properties using various methods including damaging both front and rear doors as well as breaking glass.

DI Lopa McDermott, from Kent Police, said: "We are aware of an increase in burglaries across these areas and although today we have charged four people in connection with these incidents we are continuing to investigate and will work to ensure those responsible face up to their crimes.

"As ever, we would encourage residents to stay vigilant and to ensure their properties are secured and valuables are not visible from the outside."
