Police investigate flat fire in Wealden Court, Constitution Road, Chatham

Police and fire investigators are looking into the cause of a suspicious flat fire in Chatham.

Firefighters were called to Wealden Court, Constitution Road, just after 12.30pm this afternoon.

Two fire engines went to the scene with firemen wearing breathing apparatus entering the property to tackle the blaze.

The whole front room was damaged by the fire, the cause of which is still unknown.

All residents are accounted for and no injuries have been reported.

A police spokesman said: "Officers are investigating after a report of a suspicious fire in Chatham.

"Kent Police was called to Wealden Court, Constitution Road, Chatham, by Kent Fire and Rescue Service at 12.48pm on Friday 8 July.

"Officers attended the incident and are currently treating the fire as suspicious. There are no reports of any injuries at this time.

"Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire."
