Firefighters were called this morning to burning coal dust on a jetty at Kingsnorth Power Station, Hoo.

Fine dust on the jetty, which extends over the Medway estuary, caught alight some time before 6.50am and burned for more than an hour.

One fire engine from Strood and two from Medway were at the coal-fired power station until 9am.

They wore breathing apparatus and used water jets to put out the blaze.

Sheerness RNLI were also called as backup and the Kent Fire and Rescue Service support boat was stood down en route.

The fire is not thought to have been suspicious.
