Firefighters were called to reports a fuse box had caught light in Rochester.
Two engines were sent to Highlands Close just before 6pm, although the blaze was out when they arrived.
However, the gas pipe leading from the gas isolator to the meter had split.
Crews used small tools to take the front panel of the electrical box to check for fire spread and made the scene safe, and left shortly before 6.15pm.
