Fire in hay barn in Rochester

Firefighters were called to School Lane, Wouldham, Rochester, last night (Monday, October 12) to a fire in a hay barn.

Crews from Strood and Medway stations were called out at about 7.30pm and spent several hoursdealing with the fire.

The hay was well alight when they arrived.

Some of the roof was damaged.

Several burning bales were taken out of the barn and put out.

Crews left at around 10.30pm but were called back this morning at around 8am after someone reported smoke coming from the roof.

They removed some of the tiles.

It is not known how the fire started.
