Fire destroys Chatham shop

A derelict cobblers shop in Chatham has been set alight by arsonists.

The former shoe repair shop in Hilda Road was set on fire at about 8.30pm on Tuesday, September 8, and has been destroyed.

Firefighters from Medway fire station were called out to the incident and spent more than two hours at the scene.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The shop has been totally destroyed,

“We sent two pumps to the scene and were there until about 10pm making sure all the flames were out.

“We suspect the fire was started deliberately.”
