Drivers warned of upcoming roadwork schemes around Kent

Highways England have issued a run-down of new and ongoing roadwork schemes around the county next week.

The M2 will be closed westbound between Junction 3 at Chatham and Junction 1 near Strood for four nights between 8m and 6am, starting on Monday, January 7.

The closure is to allow for work to replace joints on the Medway Bridge, and a diversion will be in place via A2 Hoath Way, Ito Way, Yokosuka Way, Pier Road, and the A289.

The M2 will also be closed westbound between Junction 5 near Stockbury and Junction 7 near Faversham for five nights between 8pm and 6pm, starting on Wednesday January 9, to allow for network improvements, with a diversion in place via A2, A20 and M20.

On the M20 improvement works continue between junctions 3 near West Malling and 5 at Maidstone.

There are currently narrow lanes and a reduced speed limit of 50mph in place; and on Tuesday January 8 the eastbound entry slip road at Junction 4 near Leybourne will be closed overnight between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the next available junction.

The eastbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 8 at Hollingbourne and 9 at Ashford on Monday January 7 for five nights between 8pm and 6am; with a diversion in place via A249, M2, A2, A20 and M20.

Also on the M20 there will be lane closures in both directions between junctions 9 at Ashford and 8 at Hollingbourne for seven nights between 8pm and 6am from Monday January 7.

In addition on Friday January 11 there will be a full carriageway closure eastbound between junction 9 and 11, and westbound between junctions 11 and 10 overnight from 8pm until Monday January 14 at 6am, with full diversions in place.

On the A2 at Darenth, Kent, junction improvements mean there is currently a 24 hour weight restriction, 50 mph speed limit, and narrow lanes in place on the eastbound carriageway.

On the A21 at Tonbridge, Kent, a weakened structure means there is currently a 50mph speed restriction, and a weight restriction between Philpots Lane overbridge and the junction of London Road A26 in both directions of the A21.

At Ashford on the A2070, there is currently a contraflow with 40 mph speed restriction in place hour lane closures in place between The Boulevard and the M20 junction 10.
