A young driver had a lucky escape when his car spun off the road and ended up embedded in the central reservation on the motorway.

The motorist, who has not been named, lost control of his car on the M2 coastbound carriageway near the Chatham turn-off on Monday night (Dec 19).

Firefighters from Strood and Medway fire stations were called at about 7.30pm, where they helped Highways Agency staff move the vehicle to the hard shoulder.

It is not thought the driver suffered any serious injury during the crash.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: "The young man was driving a Citroen and it spun round and hit the central barrier.

"We made sure the scene was safe and once we'd moved the car, the carriageway was reopened."
