Pensioner prisoner in his own home after being harassed by Reece Fromm from Allhallows Holiday Park.

A disabled man who was abused and harassed by a thug living in his village is too frightened to leave his home, a court heard.

Reece Fromm, 22, terrorised Mark Canham over several days in August last year.

Fromm, of Allhallows Holiday Park, Avery Way, hurled abuse at Mr Canham, threw stones at his windows and violently kicked his front door.

Mr Canham, who lives on the Isle of Grain, suffers from Asperger’s syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, a heart murmur and is diabetic. He also struggles with depression and anxiety.

Reece Fromm, 22 admitted to having anger issues.

Medway magistrates heard that Fromm, a ground worker, first started the abuse while Mr Canham’s son was visiting.

Police were called after Fromm threatened to kill Mr Canham and called him a cripple.

Days later Fromm returned in a drunken state, again threatening to kill Mr Canham and throwing stones at his windows and knocking on them.

Fromm was charged with harassment and initially pleaded not guilty. He changed his plea to guilty in April and was sentenced earlier this week.

Magistrates were told Fromm started targeting Mr Canham because he had apparently upset the son of Fromm’s partner and had flicked a lighter at Fromm at some point.

They also heard he was very drunk when he violently kicked Mr Canham’s door.

Fromm had previously been on the receiving end of verbal abuse from Mr Canham, but admitted he did have anger management issues.

Debbie Jones, prosecuting, read out a statement from Mr Canham which said: “I feel like I’m in prison here unless his van is not there.

“I have missed doctor’s appointments because I am frighted to go out. I am seen as the village grass now and I am a bag of nerves.

“I sit indoors with all the lights on and I’m a prisoner in my own home and my life is hell now.”

Magistrates jailed Fromm for 90 days but suspended the term for 18 months. He will be supervised by probation during this period and was told to complete 25 anger management sessions.

A restraining order was made banning Fromm from going near Mr Canham or his home again.
