Rochester dad stars in Cadbury series

A dad who had never tried riding a BMX before grabbed life by the handlebars to get close to his teenage son.

Heru Asesimba stunned his 13-year-old when he successfully pulled off BMX stunts during a show at Dreamland, Margate.

It was all part of a campaign run by confectioners Cadbury who filmed Heru over four weeks as he was put through his paces by top BMX rider and Guinness World Record holder Matti Hemmings.

The father-of-three wanted to get closer to son Jaidon who has spent the last couple of years learning tricks while out with his friends.

Heru, a personal trainer, said: "I have been a little apprehensive about him doing it as he is a high level jiu-jitsu athlete.

"But I thought it was time I showed an interest."

Jaidon, who is home schooled, has been competing internationally since he was six years old.

He currently travels with Heru from their home in Rochester to Bethnal Green three times a week to train.

Jaidon's older brother Reyce, 18, is a world champion.

Heru wanted to learn the ins and outs of BMX to show off his skills to Jaidon, culminating in a surprise showcase which saw him complete a series of tricks.

The 40-year-old, also dad to Ashaari, four, said, "There were a load of people. The main aim was to do a wheelie like Jaidon. It was extremely difficult.

"The routine started with me dropping off a VW caravan because I stupidly mentioned I was scared of heights

"Jaidon didn't know what was going on.

"We definitely bonded. Now we go out on bike rides and learn tricks together."

Cadbury Heroes Families Reunited follows two parents when they try and reconnect with their teens.

The first 20-minute documentary starring Heru and Jaidon is live on their YouTube page.
