Branches of Woolworths in Gillingham will close their doors for the last time at the end of this month, with other Medway stores following only days later.

The Gillingham High Street store and the branch at Twydall Green, will close by next Tuesday (December 30).

The store in Chatham High Street will close on January 2 and the branch in Strood High Street will close on January 5.

Hundreds of jobs in Medway will be lost, after administrator Deloitte said it had failed to find a buyer for the collapsed retailer after its administration was announced in November.

The announcement has seen sales in Woolworths shops across the county with shoppers eager to grab a Christmas bargain.

Medway has the largest concentration of Woolworths stores in Kent, with all the company's 807 stores nationwide to close in the next two weeks.
