The Tex-Mex eatery chain, known for its margaritas, fajitas and desserts, will cease trading on Saturday, May 27.

Its closure was confirmed after a customer informed KentOnline they had tried to book a birthday meal at the end of June.

A member of Chiquito’s staff said the restaurant was to close for good exactly one month today.

On Saturday, another customer had been eating at the restaurant where they claimed a waitress was in tears following the news.

They said: “Chiquito staff found out that the business is unable to extend their lease and they’ll cease trading in five weeks.

“Staff were only told on Thursday last week.”

In October 2020, it was announced that the Ashford branch of Chiquito at the Eureka Leisure Park would remain shut, having not reopened after lockdown.

It had opened in the former M20 Nightclub in 2011.

Last month, it was revealed The Restaurant Group, which owns Chiquito, Frankie & Benny's and Wagamama, would be shutting 35 outlets.

The decision was blamed on a "tough macroeconomic environment" for the hospitality industry.

Chiquito has been contacted for a comment about the Strood branch.
