Firefighters called to chip pan flat fire at Phoenix Court, High Street, Gillingham

Firefighters were called to a blaze in a flat in Gillingham High Street this morning.

Neighbours called Kent Fire and Rescue service after they smelt smoke coming from a second floor flat in Phoenix Court at 10.20am.

Firefighters forced entry into the property and found that a chip pan, which had been left on the hob, had caught fire.

Crews were called to North Dane Way at 2.10pm

They put it out using a damp tea towel and moved the pan to safety.
