Medway primary school children find out which secondary school has offered them a place

There has been an increase in the number of children in Medway being offered a place at their preferred secondary school.

Families across Kent and Medway will be receiving news of their applications for places in September this afternoon.

More than 95% of Medway children have been offered a place at their preferred school, up from 93% last year.

Of the 3,480 Medway children offered places – up from 3,300 – more than 94% have been awarded either their first, second or third preference.

As with last year, every child whose families have applied for a place have been offered one.

Medway Council's School Admissions and Transport team will now handle applications for 4,245 children, including 765 children from outside the Medway area.

A total of 21,680 parents and carers have applied for a place for their child in a Kent school, which is an increase of 949 since 2018 and an additional 207 applications compared to 2019.

Cllr Martin Potter (Con), Medway Council’s portfolio holder for education and schools, said: “I am very pleased that more than 95% of children have been allocated a place at one of their preferred secondary schools.

"We have a fantastic range of schools here in Medway and I would like to wish everyone finding out their allocated place the best of luck for the future.”

Cllr Josie Iles (Con), the council's lead member for children’s services, said: “This is a very exciting time for children and their families, and I am pleased that the vast majority of children have been allocated a place at one of their preferred schools.

"I wish the children all the best as they take their next step into secondary school.

“I would also like to thank our admissions team for all their hard work. It is a testament to them that 91% of children have been allocated a place at their first or second choice school.”
