Chatham manager Alex O’Brien left the club at the weekend after just one season in charge.

O’Brien’s future at Maidstone Road had been in doubt since a disappointing second half to the Ryman League Division 1 South campaign which saw Chatham finish 17th.

A statement on Chatham’s website said: "Chatham Town have parted company with manager Alex O’Brien and his assistant Lew Watts.

"Following a difficult first season in management, Alex has decided to further his development with another club.

"Chatham extend their thanks to Alex and Lew and wish them well for the future.

"Chatham are now looking for a suitable replacement management team who can build a team from exciting youth players already with the club, experienced players from last season’s squad and by bringing in new players."

O’Brien, who took over from Steve Binks last summer, had previously stated that his future would not be decided until after the club’s presentation evening, which was held on Friday night. He had also revealed that a lack of training facilities were hampering his efforts to make progress in the job.
