A home in Chatham has been raided as part of a crackdown on criminals in the run-up to Christmas.

Officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate carried out the early-morning operation yesterday.

It was one of six homes targeted, including one in Gravesend and others in Essex and London.

Two people were arrested in London, including a woman on suspicion of conspiracy to traffic for sexual exploitation.

The latest initiative means in the last week officers have arrested 31 people to tackle organised crime, which included alleged illegal drugs supply and money laundering.

Assistant Chief Constable Gary Beautridge, head of the directorate, said: "In the lead up to the festive period, we will be focusing all our efforts on ensuring our communities remain safe."
