The cause of a blaze at a home in Chatham is being investigated by police.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus to enter the house, in Constitution Road, just after midnight this morning (Tuesday) and spent several hours at the scene making sure the flames were out.

The crew from Medway fire station were able to contain the fire to the ground floor of the property and say about a quarter of it was destroyed by the flames.

No-one was inside the home when the fire broke out.

Firefighters say the kitchen and a room at the back of the property suffered fire damage. The rest of the house did suffer smoke damage.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We were on the scene four about two hours and used breathing apparatus to enter the building.

“The police are investigating what caused the fire.”
