Two brothers are attempting to drive to Barcelona in a battered Nissan Micra that's almost 30 years old.

Leo Dee, 37, and his brother Mike, 30, from Chatham, set off on the 900-mile road trip from Dover at 6.45am this morning (Saturday).

The challenge, set by charity Martha Trust, is to get from British shores to the Spanish city in a car worth no more than £200 with tax, insurance and an MOT.

What I’m looking forward to most is doing this for a local charity, and the experience and camaraderie of it all."Speaking before the trip Leo, a stay at home dad, said: "

He added: "The Micra was a great find. It was in such good condition, with low mileage that we had to have it.

"There is a risk travelling in a car worth so little, but hopefully we’ll get there in one piece. It’s going to be interesting!"

It will take Leo and Mike about three days to reach Barcelona, with regular stops planned for the journey.

Martha Trust cares for people with profound physical and multiple learning disabilities across Kent and Sussex.
