Firefighters came to the rescue of Betty the cat who got stuck in a gap between two walls of flats in Luton.

The adventurous moggie had gone walkabout for five days to the dismay of her owners.

But in the early hours of Sunday morning her miaows could be heard near the Constitution Castle at the top of the hill.

A crew from Medway Fire Station were called at about 3.30am to an address in Constitution Hill.

Betty had managed to lodge herself between the walls between the flats and pub.

Firefighter Archie Deacon said: “We used a hammer and chisel to widen the hole and Betty was out in no time.

"She was more stressed out with the noise of the hammer than getting stuck. Otherwise she was unharmed.”
