A police spokeswoman said: "We were called at 10.48am to reports a car had crashed into a property through the window and into a living room."

SECAmb was also called, as was Kent Fire and Rescue Service because the vehicle was leaking fuel.

A spokesman for SECAmb said: "A man aged about 70 was treated at the scene by paramedics, he remained conscious throughout and had got out of his car before the first ambulance arrived.

"He was taken to Medway hospital suffering from back pain. Two ambulances and one paramedic car were called at 10.50am."

Matt Bray, who lives on the road, said: "I was just getting ready to go to work when I heard all the sirens and commotion.

"I didn't see the crash, but speaking to people, it seems as though the driver somehow lost control.

"There were people saying he might be trapped in the car, and there was a lot of panic in case the people in the house were trapped or injured as well.

"The way the car has gone through the wall, the driver could have some really nasty injuries, I hope he's ok."

It is not believed anybody inside the home was injured in the incident.

A spokeswoman for KFRS said: "We helped to make the scene safe and clear up the fuel leak. We left the scene at 11.31."

A structural engineer has also been called to check the building.

David Collins, who saw the aftermath of the crash, said: "Nobody hurt, and driver appears to be only badly shaken. A very quick response from emergency services."
