Driver races around empty
car park

Racing around the car park, the driver of this souped-up sports
car loses control - his vehicle looking as though it is
heading for a crash.

Going so fast it emits plumes of smoke and leaves skid marks in
its wake, the motorist can be seen straightening the car up just in
time.

The vehicle was caught on footage obtained by the Messenger and
is one of many recently spotted on the Medway City Estate.

The Strood estate has become a target for boy racers who leave
workers feeling threatened and fearing for their safety.

One man who works in Laser Quay, who did not want to be named,
said: "It is frightening to leave the building and walk to the car
with boy racers wheel spinning and racing around the car park.

"There is also a high risk that they will crash into the parked
cars. I have even left the office when several cars are being
driven wildly, only to find more cars parked across the exit of the
road blocking it and forcing me to use the wrong side of the road
to get out.

"It feels threatening as they all look on as if I am in their
space and not the other way around. They treat the whole estate
like a motoring playground."

In addition to using the estate - which houses about 600
businesses and 6,000 employees - in the evenings, boy racers
have also been seen at weekends.

PC Andy Ledger, of Medway Police, said: "This type of driving is
dangerous, irresponsible and very anti-social.

"It can obviously cause distress to a number of businesses in
the local area and we would discourage anyone from using industrial
areas as playgrounds for their cars.

"If caught, motorists could find themselves being arrested for
various driving or public order offences and persistent offenders
also run the risk of having their vehicles seized.

"Anti-social behaviour on the Medway City Estate car parks will
not be tolerated and we would urge anyone who sees cars being
driven dangerously to contact Medway Police immediately."
