Investigation after bus crashes into bus stop at Hempstead Valley

An investigation is under-way after a bus crashed into a bus stop at Hempstead Valley.

Witness Denis Johnson said it was lucky no one was injured in the incident on Wednesday at the shopping centre near Chatham.

He had been sitting in his car waiting for his wife when the bus pulled in.

"I think it came in a little bit too sharply," he said. "The top corner of the bus hit the shelter and at all leaned over. Then it just burst all the glass out. Nobody was at the bus stop thankfully, that was the saving grace. One person came off the bus but they weren't injured.

"I think they would have had to take it out of service because the right corner of the bus was ripped open."

"It made quite a noise," he added. "The entire window shattered."

A spokesman for Arriva said: "We can confirm there was an incident at Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre yesterday, which we are investigating fully."
