Emergency services were called shortly after 2pm yesterday.

Firefighters used their hydraulic equipment to free the woman, who was taken to hospital. The road reopened at 3.40pm.

She was understood to have suffered injuries to her hips and waist but was well enough to leave Medway Maritime Hospital last night.

One person who drove by the scene but didn't want to be named, said: "A bus is right on the junction of the High Street, several police cars have blocked the road.

"There were firemen at the scene and they didn't look too happy, many were shaking their heads."

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We were called at 2.03pm after reports of a crash between a bus and a pedestrian."

A spokesman for Medway Police confirmed road closures were in place following the accident between The Brook and Luton Arches.
