Alfie Page was told it would be highly unlikely he would have children after being badly burned in an horrific accident.

Alfie, known affectionately as Podge, suffered 70 per cent burns when he was covered in petrol and set alight while playing with his friends in May 2000.

Doctors gave him just a one in 10 chance of survival as he fought for his life, but nine years on he is a father and looking forward to his wedding to fiancee Katie next year.

Baby Lucy was born on Father’s Day 2008. Proud Alfie said: “Doctors told me that it was very unlikely I would be able to have children so I was over the moon. Life is full of surprises.

“Katie gave birth at home so I was there when Lucy was born.”

Alfie and Katie knew each other as children, but drifted apart before getting together in 2006.

Katie said: “Alfie might not have been here so we want to have a big wedding and make it the best.”

Alfie’s mum Maria said: “The wedding day will be emotional. I never thought Alfie would make it to 21, let alone be getting married.”
