Motorcyclist injured after car makes off from the scene after smash on A2 Watling Street, Gillingham

A motorcyclist was injured after smash on A2 in Gillingham last night and police are hunting the driver after the vehicle left the scene before police arrived.

The accident happened on the A2 at Watling Street at the junction with Canterbury Street, shortly before 8.30pm.

Police were called to the scene near to the Old Ash Tree pub, at about 8.25pm, but the driver of the vehicle which hit the biker, had left the scene.

A spokesman for police said: "Kent Police received a report of a collision involving a car and motorcycle at 8.26pm.

"It was reported the driver of the car left the scene before officers’ arrival on the A2 Rainham Road near to the junction with Canterbury Street.

"The motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital.

"Enquiries are ongoing to locate the car driver.
