Arrest after six-stone Bradley mugged in alley

A teenage boy has been arrested in connection with the mugging of a vulnerable man who was viciously attacked while waiting for a bus.

Bradley Hannan, who weighs just six stone, was punched in the head and had his wallet and mobile phone stolen near the May Moon Chinese takeaway, in Luton Road, Chatham.

He had been waiting for a bus at about 3.30pm on Wednesday, November 18, when he was dragged into an alley by the attacker.

Mr Hannan, 29, who lives in Lordswood, has previously battled three brain tumours.

He had been volunteering at Medway Maritime Hospital and was making his way home when he was attacked.

His sister Daniela Golding highlighted what happened to him on Facebook, prompting a huge response. At the time, Mrs Golding wrote: “My beautiful brave brother all six stone of him was dragged up an alley on Luton Road and punched in his precious head which has already battled three brain tumours and then mugged of his wallet with cash and his phone.

“I am heartbroken because he would not hurt a fly so how anyone can harm him makes me feel sick.”

Mrs Golding asked her friends and everyone who could see the post to share it in the hope her brother’s attacker would be caught.

Mr Hannan’s plight touched the heart of many people who read about what had happened, including Alison Fowler, 28, who decided to set up an online fundraising page to replace what he had stolen out of his wallet. In just a few days, it generated more than £3,000.

Police confirmed at the time they were investigating the incident and it was revealed this week, a 17-year-old boy from the Towns has been arrested on suspicion of robbery. He has been released on bail pending further inquiries until Monday, April 4.
